The Crucial 5 Minutes of Meditation

There are always rituals in our daily practice. Some of might us stretch, others listen to mantras or even go for a walk. Anything to get us in the mood to meditate. As long as you are consistent in practice, it’s all duly recommended. 

Lately I have come to realize a lot of practitioners don’t ease into Meditating. They get in posture, eyes closed and focused on their breath almost immediately. It just makes sense that your body must ease into it. You had a stressful day, your body aches, you need some relaxation so you go into your mind. Where does that leave the body? You cannot relax your body through the will of the mind. Its vice-versa; when the body is relaxed the mind becomes calm.

I hear a lot of practitioners say the hardest part in meditation is getting started. Is it any wonder? You have to ease into it. It’s not wise to dive head first hoping for the best. You'll end up with a headache. Before you start the practice take some time to ease into your posture. Feel the presence of your body and feel it relax. Focus on your back, legs, arms and stomach. Envision each area flowing and working effortlessly. Feel your blood moving fluidly and making your body vibrant. Project your presence proudly, take a deep breath and just envision your entire body floating in mid-air.

When your body begins to relax your mind follows suit. Natural and effortless, your mind begins to get in a contemplative state. There is little effort. Everything just flows. Your breathing is natural, not conscious, your body is seamlessly relaxed and all your stresses fade away. You are in a higher consciousness now. From this plane you can start to recite mantras or affirmations. You will begin to realize they hold much more credence, they feel more natural and impart more power. Now you are coming from the right place.
