What is the Japan Karate Association World Federation?
With immense membership in over 100 countries, the JKA is the largest and most prestigious karate organization. The JKA is the recognized heir to the Shotokan karate tradition. The JKA also preserves the ancient art of kokufu-bunka-karate-do_ karate based on traditional Bushido ( The way of the samurai). Our mission is to promote this way of karate throughout the world, strictly ensuring that it remains true to the philosophical precepts upon which it was founded.
What to expect in karate class
JKA karate consists of three groups of study which are kihon (basics) kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Extreme emphasis on proper form and balance to produce effective techniques. It is highly unlikely that any new participants will spar the first day. Kihon, kata, and kumite must be studied thoroughly in order to show absolute freedom of movement at will. Classes are relaxed and stress free. It is important to study whole heartedly and determined.
